I was noodling around Wikipedia for strange minor league baseball team names and learned that players for the San Antonio Missions are themselves called "Missions," and not what, to me, would be the obvious name, "Missionaries." Sadly, this deprives fans of hearing discussions about their favorite "Missionary position players."
Not to mention, it makes talking about pitchers and catchers a lot less fun. And how many times are we denied hearing about "the Missionary in the hole"? That's pretty bush league. I could probably keep going forever. A little mood music: Elton John's "Burn Down the Mission":
